Pagers and Iterators

I have something which is equivalent to
 
 use Class::DBI::Pager;

 my $pager = $self->pager(20,$page_number)
 sort { $a->foo cmp $b->foo } $pager->retrieve_all

but, of course, this only orders stuff on each page. 

Apart from the fact that I should switch to Class::DBI::Plugin::Pager 
because my tables are large is there anyway round this?
