This is one of the things that will theoretically be fixed by the
legendary code that will store values as objects. The objects will know
their 'database' value, their 'inflated' value etc simultaneously,
rather than only being able to be one of these, and thus will magically
work everywhere.

Of course this code still doesn't actually exist, or at least not in any
way that can actually be used, but that's the plan.
