Great! The two candidates I'd suggest are:
1) --disable-rule=EXPAT
2) -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64
It's either LFS or XML parser problem. Since your problem happens with
XML, I think it's the first one. Try removing --disable-rule=EXPAT in
Makefile.PL and see if it helps.
