I didn't suggest to answer only compression specific question. I'm sure 
you can answer a whole lot of other questions. And you can still plug your 
knowledge-base/service/whatever in those replies even if those have 
nothing to do with the discussed topic (e.g. at the end of the email). 
After all, you've answered someone's question and helped them, so you've 
rightfully earned a right to do your own plug. At least IMHO :)
