I'm not sure I'd agree with that, because wrt ithreads, the 5.8.x 
line has improved massively since 5.8.0.  For instance, on
my linux box I've seen the startup times for the modperl test
suite reduced from a few minutes to a now just a few seconds 
with 5.8.6.  I'm sure there are a ton of other unfixed bugs
in the ithread code itself, but that looks like real progress 
to me.

++stas!  Please keep banging on that wall; the ithreads stuff in
mp2 has way too much potential to let it fall into disrepair.
