SER1 wiper circuit

Hello all,   I was wondering if the wiper motors on my '57, 88" are supposed 
to be wired so they are turned on when the key is on.  Or, are they wired to 
turn on without the key being on?   My project's loom is seriously bodged 
and I have to perform some archaeological restoration.   thanks for the
