Subject: SER1 Joey Smallwood's Land Rover
This will probably interest only those in eastern Canada, but I have
emailed the following text to seven Members of Newfoundland's House of
Assembly, the Premier Danny Williams, and the Editors of the Aurora,
Labradorian and Northern Pen newspapers. I invite any who wish to add
their voice to mine to do the same:
I am not a Newfoundlander or Labradoran, but I have followed the progress
of the Trans-Labrador highway with great interest, and I understand that
the final gap between Cartwright and Goose Bay will be closed in 2007 or
2008.
With this in mind, I am writing to urge you to endorse and encourage the
idea that the first vehicle to cross Newfoundland on the Trans-Canada
highway, Joey Smallwood's 1958 Series II Land Rover, should be permitted
to complete its long-delayed journey across the province and be the first
over the completed Trans-Labrador as well.
That this is not an unreasonable challenge I intend to demonstrate by
driving my own even older Land Rover (1952) over the same route next year
and, hopefully, just behind Joey's, in 2007.
Thank you.
