Jeremy,
Do not understand what you are saying. The freestanding headlights were only
fitted before mid 1950 model year. After 1950 (and up to 196?) all Land
Rovers should have headlights built into the front centre panel with an
inverted T shaped grille. These can be replaced with any relatively modern
unit - 55w halogen if preferred - without much difficulty. If you have
freestanding units then parts of your vehicle are much older than 1955!

I've got a 1955 S1 with i suppose they're stand alone headlamps, ie not
build into the wings/grill but they are only 40w at most and rusty as heck,
i was wondering if anyone can suggest a higher wattage alternative for them
that i could swap too.
