Speaking of 'perfect' 4x4's brings to mind the old Walters trucks built in
the Albany, New York area for 3/4 of a century or so. About the end of
WWI old man Walters decided he could improve on the 4x4's used in France
and laid out a truck with 50-50 weight distribution, full-time
four-wheel-drive, independent suspension, portal wheel reduction, and
twin-screw (think Torsen) limited slip diffs. Later, he added Con-Vel
constant velocity u-joints. Walters trucks were built in very small
numbers but were the premier snowplows and airport crash trucks until
squeezed off the market about a decade ago.
