George,
On closer inspection and after comparing my hardtop with the Parts
Catalogue it appears that someone added an L-shaped piece of galvanized
steel along the leading edge (toward the front of the vehicle) of the
side panel. It is a very nice job and I took it for original. Sorry
for the confusion.
