My 2 cents worth...
A bit of oil in the top or ATF does well at loosening rings, or if the
engine has been indoors and away from moisture for those 30 years, nothing
at all.
With the plugs out, crank the engine with the starter until some oil
pressure comes up. If there is no oil pressure gauge, until oil begins to
come out on the rocker shaft - which you can check if the upper valve cover
breather cap is removed.
Give it a start...

Randy
PS. If you put oil in the top end, crank it over with the starter AND the
plugs out to make sure the oil is evacuated and you don't get a hydraulic
lock. Adding oil to the top end may make it harder to start. Starter fluid
may be a bit rough on an engine that hasn't been lubricated for 30 years.
Also, the old petrol may gum up the carburetor jets, carburetor float valve,
or fuel pump valves. Fresh petrol throughout. Good luck!
