Hi Ian

I am almost certain that the correct tail lamp for your 55 is the " pork pie 
" lamp. It has a black metal body about 3" deep and about 3 1/2" wide. There 
is a clear lens on the underside to light the number plate and a red lens in 
the end.

On my own 55 86", I have the Butler pork pie lights which are a year later I 
think. These are all red plastic but the same dimensions, again with a clear 
lens on the underside. These are much cheaper and easier to obtain as they 
are used on some commercial vehicles .

The correct lamps are being re-manufactured by someone in Holland I believe 
but are quite expensive. I seem to remember about £65.00 UKP.

They often come up on E-bay at a better price if you are lucky.
