Subject: SER1 FIRST OVERLAND RE-LIVES!
I've been dropping big hints, but couldn't say more because I didn't
know how much of other people's plans were available for public
knowledge. But now I understand that Antony Barrington-Brown ('BB') =
is
writing to 'Legend' and the rest of the LR press, so it's probably OK
for me to tell you - I promised you'd be the first to know.
'First Overland' is being republished to mark the 50th Anniversary of
the Oxford & Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition setting out from London =
to
Singapore on September 1st 1955. It will probably by available in
October. There will also be a prestigious launch event in London =
later
in November.
BB has given me access to a video copy of his original 16mm mute film
(which is in colour - those of us who only know the book think that =
the
Expedition took place in black & white!), and I am planning to produce =
a
DVD featuring most of the footage, with a commentary provided by some =
of
the original team. I hope it will prove to be an essential addition =
to
the 'First Overland' story, as the footage has had very little public
availability, and I'm honoured to have been given the opportunity to =
do
this.
[UK members - I understand that there may also be a programme on =
Channel
4, but that will, by the very nature of broadcast TV, be less detailed
than we LR enthusiasts would desire!]
I'd ask you still to be patient, as I won't be able to say anything
about availability, price or anything until I've actually done the
filming and MADE the DVDs. But messages of potential interest etc =
would
not be unwelcome on overland@xxxxxxx.xx.xx.
Regards,
=20
