Mike & Coen-
I used the Por-15 on my Chassis including 2 bottom primer coats and 3 top
coats. It has really held up well and looks great. I've driven my truck a
lot and it has seen lots of off road too. As far as the UV consideration,
Mike is correct, but Por-15 does make a UV resistant version. Make sure you
get the right one for your application. I found that it sprays nicely as
well as brushes on nicely, too. Make sure you also clean all of your
equipment very well after application. If you use those cheap sponge
brushes, you not only get no brush marks, but a disposable applicator as
well. It takes longer for Por-15 to cure. Keep that in mind as you use it.
It also goes bad fast. Pour out of the tin only what you need for the part
you are painting. Keep the can well sealed and don't buy any more than you
need.
I think you'll find that the cost is well work it. Makes sense for things
you only one to paint once. As with any painting, prep the metal good, make
it clean and oil free. Yes, Por-15 does paint over rust, but it works
better if you use a metal brush, or better yet, a wire cup brush on a angle
grinder and get the metal cleaned up. Then paint over it. It will last way
longer that way.
Mike is also right about the clean up of the Por-15 on your skin. I had
black ears for awhile after painting the chassis' harder to reach
spots...don't ask.
Good luck!
Matt
