As far as I know the TD5 is not fitted with a catalytic converter. Even if
it was, in the UK at least this is not part of the MOT for any diesel
vehicle so can be removed.
The TDi was, or at least the 300 TDi, so I removed mine on a 300TDi
Discovery when fitting a complete straight through Stainless Steel exhaust
system from Rimmer Bros a few years ago. Rimmer do not make a SS front pipe
with a cat, only a replacement mild steel version. So even though I removed
the cat, my system was 200 GB pounds cheaper and more efficient.

Subject: SER1 Not a series problem, more modern Td5
Hello folks, mainly from UK
Aftermarket should offer a catalysator-kit for upgrading the TDI and the
early and lateTd5-engines from EURO I up to EURO III. Who knows something
about that, which manufacturer?
If itīs not only a rumour I īll save taxes up to 500? p.a. with my early
Td5 Defender.
Maybe some of the english members know a bit more!
Thanks in advance
