It's a limitation of the parser.  We're looking for

VAR OP NUMBER

and we're getting

VAR NUMBER

as -1 is interpreted as 'negative 1' not 'the minus operator and
positve 1'

I'm sure the TT3 parser will cope with this.  Andy?
