I'm an idiot. It does see inner_areas. I overlooked
that wrappers are processed inside out and therefore
a wrapper inside a wrapper doesn't use the style of
its enclosing wrapper. Actually the opposite is true.
Outside uses inside. Forgetting this along with a
bunch of jumbled up experimental code made me think
some weird things were happening.
