curious about table_alias

In the CDBI pod it says: table_alias - When CDBI constructs SQL, it 
aliases your table name to a name representing your class. However ...

I don't understand the reason for wanting to do this. The table name is 
already valid for SQL so why is it necessary or desirable to change it 
to something else, which can then cause difficulties? Can anybody 
enlighten me?
