Hi Tom,

From St. Barbe (the eastern Belle Isle ferry terminus) to St. Johns is
approximately 10 hours at 120 km/h, no stops. Those small scale maps can
certainly mislead :-)

I'm trying (much as I'd like to do the route you sketch) to keep the trip
to the essential wilderness loop through Labrador, with the diverting
'ships and trains' bit at the perimeter. If memory serves, there is a
road up to Labrador City, but putting the Rovers on flats at Sept Iles is
the usual way freight gets into the interior, I believe. Sept Iles is
also a port for the coastal boat that services the Lower North Shore to
Blanc Sablon, so from there we could go in either direction. Staging
through Sept Iles would be the most flexible option. The Rovers get to
ride in and out, but I can assure you there would be plenty of seat time
in between. Besides, from Syracuse to Sept Iles would be three days each
way, so I like the idea of a day or three of comfortable cushions before
or after the wilderness bit.
