SER1 waterpump

Hey Marty
wouldn't You know it my waterpump started to complain bitterly last night
It made some horrible screeching noises and then settled down with a
consistant " ballbearings in a tin can" rattle.
Nothing leaks yet, there is a little play in the shaft but not a lot and
it's not the dynamo bearings either

I noticed that my carbon ring & seal unit 231143 ( the one just
purchased)does not fit over the pump spindle and bearing assy
that I believed to be for a series 1.
Is there a difference between the waterpumps of the siamese bore and the
later 2 liter engines?
My spindle assy came in a box of spares for a 86" i bought about 15 years
ago.
I am just glad these things happen before the trip to Petersham and not en
route or the night before .
