Bill,
If you do use the 2.25 spin on adapter, be careful to not install it backwards.
The throw away filters that fit the adapter usually have an anti drainback 
valve and if on backwards, the oil can't flow. several series 2,3 owners 
have burned out the bearings this way.
I know two personally.
