I agree, but if you look at the fourth digit home models are 0 ie R0610
whereas mine is R0616 which according to the series one club (or any of
the other guides to decoding chassis numbers)
It goes
1st digit : model year, in my case 0 for 1950
2nd digit : vehicle type 6 = Land rover
3rd digit : variant 1= Basic, 2 station wagon, 3 welder, 6 CKD
4th digit : spec 0 =Home market, 3 LHD Export 6 RHD export - in my
case it's a 6
As you say the R/L denotes right and left - this practice was
discontinued part way through the 1950 model year/

The engine is a 2ltr from a 1957 86", engine number 111712286, I've
not got as far as looking at the gearbox / axle numbers , but the
transfer gearbox is from the 1950 chassis as it is the freewheel type
(the second of the 3 basic types, with the freewheel operated by the
yellow knob that is later used for engaging high ratio 4 wheel drive)
. The front axle is a series 2/3 item, the rear looks original series
1. I'll post the numbers when I've had a hance to clear nthe grime of
and find them!

We are now implementing a new ticketing system to improve response time
and
reduce the chances of a request being missed. This does mean a change of
email address, but will help us to help you more efficiently. In future
we
ask that new job requests be sent to nsmsjobs@xxxx.xx.xx.xx and general
queries/discussions to nsms@xxxx.xx.xx.xx.
Thanks for your cooperation - the NSMS Team.
