Hi George & Peter,
Many thanks for the replies and particularly interested to hear the views
from a professional, George ! Yes, it's a bit of a puzzler in that there's no
whine when the unit's disengaged. Also, the whine is, or at least was, at its
worst when in what you might call 'cruise mode'; i.e. when neither
accelerating nor decelerating, when the noise virtually disappears.
Yesterday I did 90 miles towing and I'll swear the noise has reduced even
more ! I find the 2 litre will 'pull' the overdrive quite happily on the level
with a ton or so behind, but even the slightest incline means disengaging it.
