Thanks for that info, Diana; Kiandra sure was on our map, but then that was
back in the '80s ! You surprise me, rather, as it looked much older, with
more of a Wild West look about it. It was dusk when we went through, but my
recollection is just of a few gently decaying wooden shacks.

Kiandra - that name brings back memories, it was a boom town from the late
40's through to the 60's during the building of the Snowy Hydro Scheme. There
was a general store and In fact it was the highest town in Australia so it
had a meteorological station so it was often on the TV news with the coldest
temp. After the Snowy Scheme was finished the accommodation at Cabramurra was
sufficient for the maintenance staff so Kiandra died off. I don't think it
even appears on the map anymore.
