    G'Day Anthony,
Kiandra definitely dated back a bit further than the Snowy sceme. It
was a gold rush town in the 1800's. Most of the Snowy Mountains area is
now administered by National Parks, including Kiandra. There was a
policy at one time within the National Parks organisation of removing
signs of european occupation of the land so all of the old buildings
were destroyed and removed (obviously after your visit). There were also
a lot of chinese gold miners at Kiandra. Several cemetries, both chinese
and european remain. The only remaining building is a depot for the snow
ploughs, this used to be a pub during the Snowy Mountains sceme
construction phase.
    Cheers
