    I know what you mean Nick,
     It is a fairly large project in itself. I have no idea how the 
things stay anywhere near in balance. The blades are wood too, this 
material can change size, shape and weight overnight.
     The blades for this prop and these days all other new Spitfire 
props are made only by Hoffman. You guessed it, a German company. You 
are also correct about the size of the things. They look impressively 
big when on the aircraft and positively massive when on the bench. The 
castelated locking nut refered to earlier (and the tool to undo/do it 
up) is about 7" diameter.
