Hello SER1 list members,

In the last few weeks quite a few messages to
the SER1 list were lost, as evidenced by several
complaints and messages intercepted by the Major
(the mailing list program) to end up in our BOUNCED
MAIL mailbox.

Please be assured, the Major is feeling fine and is
fully operational. Thank you for your kind concern.

It appears that the cause of the lost messages is
that they exceeded the 9 kb file size limit, about
4-1/2 pages or regular text (9'000 characters, up
from 8'000 a year ago). Messages over 9 kb are
filtered and redirected to the administrator (Me).

To avoid large messages, please trim unnecessary
quotations from previous messages instead of
simply hitting the "Reply" button. After a few
unedited replies, messages increase exponentially.

Messages with excessive replies also defeat search
engines in that seemingly the same information is
referenced many many times, instead of just once.

Also, please do not send attachments like photos
or other large files. These should be posted to the
Garage so graciously set up by Jeremy Brooks, with
the URL or location posted to the list so that we can
download them individually at our leisure.

We return you now to the regular SER1 broadcast
and hope everyone has a pleasant tomorrow.

Michael Carradine and the Major
