It's about as silly as the English custom of advertising an<br>
item for sale without stating a price, instead saying
"offers".<br>
What's the point in that? Is this a private auction?
Does<br>
the seller think he has gem but is embarrassed to state it?<br>
Is he looking for free appraisals and a lot of discussion?<br>
Does the price vary as to who is buying it? It seems to<br>
me the seller has the responsibility to state the asking<br>
price and come right out with it, not play games and<br>
impede commerce. Similarly a reserve on EBay is sheer<br>
silliness and should not be permitted in any circumstance.<br><br>
