After de-rusting I treated the chassis = with various brands of rust treatment, the best I think was probably by = Bilt-Hamber called Hydrate 80. Deox-C by the same company is good for = de-rusting small parts especially engine or critical mechanical parts = that must not be damaged. This works by immersing them in a variable = strength solution. I would have liked to have stripped everything and = had it sandblasted but I had no room, so I could only do small areas at = a time. I sprayed Waxoyl through the inside of the chassis, having first = of all set up a rope from front to rear through each chassis leg, then = pulling an extended spray hose through. I did this on a hot summer day = to help flo with help from Mclay who was on the hand pump while I = directed the spray. Mclay's hand was beginning to hurt after a while, so = I used an old electric windscreen washer pump which worked really well = but meant that we both ended up covered in waxoyl as well! That was = about 14 months ago, and already I see areas where rust is showing = through, I also find that Hammerite chips easily. I read recently of a = paint used on canal boats but was unable at the time to locate a = stockist and I've now forgotten its name - I heard its also used on Saab = cars! Peter 1958 109" Diesel Truck Cab Cumbria UK ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Ulrico Becker=20 To: series1@xxxxxxxxx.xxx=20 Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2005 2:17 PM Subject: SER1 What to do to the interior of the chassis The latest wheather report from 9 deg E, 48 deg N (Munich), altitude = 665 m:=20 wind W 15 kn, 1/8 cumuli and stratocumuli, no downfall in the last 8h, = sight > 5m, -7 dec celsius.... this was the special for Diana! Now to the chassis: Treatment of the outside is pretty straight = forward, sand blasting or wire brushing, depending on equipment = available. Then several coats of paint, the selection of which seems to = be an art by itself... I would go for hammerit for lack of knowledge of = better alternatives. But what have those of you who have completed your project done to the = interior parts? Just waxoiling as it is? What should be done to it? If I = cut the rear cross member off I intend to insert a hose from a steam = cleaner into it (my neighbour has one to free blocked pipes) and blast = all the mud out. But what then? I would be really glad to participate in your experiences.=20 Ulrico --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
