Hi folks,

I´m talking about the orginal dynamo, or better about two orginal dynamos. I switched the car from positive to negative earth, and my knowledge about electrics is from school and this is nearly 35years ago! My practise with car electrics is nothing.

The dynamo, which was built in has a failure, red warning light is still burning. This is the dynamo I changed with a spark onto negative direction.

I took this dynamo out of the car and opened ít carefully from the rear side, the coals are large enough, the little springs and connections are okay. But the half plates over the field coils inside the corpus are a little bit rusty. So I cleaned them very carefully with a soft sandpaper and oiled them a little bit. The segments on the anchor are clean and have no rust.

I opened also the second one which should be a spare part. This second one has other connections at the rear side and another pulley for a thinner belt. Inside it looks very clean and no rust. So I take the corpus , back plate and pulley of the first one, the anchor of the spare part one.

After fixing both complete I take my voltmeter, which shows positive and negative Volts and connect it at the first dynamo. When I turn the pulley by hand in the right direction the voltmeter shows positive volts, when I turn the pulley in the opposite(wrong) direction the voltmeter shows a minus before the numbers.

Now I made the same with the sparepart one which has the inner of the first one. The second one wasn´t switched onto negative earth. Turning by hand in the right direction the voltmeter shows a negative , in the opposite direction a positive number.

Can this be or do I dream with open eyes? You see, I have a minimum of understanding in electrics, but I tested it twice at each dynamo, same reaction.

So tomorrow I will build the negative earth one into the car and I hope, the red ignition warning light will be off.
