The car inspection authorities here in Finland are VERY careful and precise
- if it becomes evident, for instance, that you have changed over 50% of the
parts of a vehicle, you have to pay the purchase tax again. Therefore,
usually they inspect not only the stamped VIN number alone but also the area
surrounding it for welding marks, for example.

However, when I have had my series ones inspected, the aluminum VIN plates
have always been enough - no interest in stamped numbers whatsoever. It may
be, though, that an average car inspector here in Finland does not expect a
50's Land Rover to have anything else.
