Hi All - and Happy Easter,
I have just been reading an interesting article in Land Rover Enthusiast
magazine about a Professor Bernhard Grzimek who was the director of
Frankfurt Zoo, but who also spent many years trying to save wildlife in
Africa. He spent most of his time in the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania.
While working here, he and is son Michael used a 107 station wagon as their
transport while they studied animal migration patterns. The 107 was painted
with black and white stripes in a 'Zebra' style and the article was trying
to prove that this was possibly the first vehicle to carry this paintwork.
(it's a few years before the childrens TV series 'Daktari'). Sadly Michael
was killed in a plane crash in 1959 and the vehicle was sold, but James
Taylor is interesed to find out if this was the first vehicle to carry such
a paint scheme, and I wonder if the vehicle still survives - it should not
have rusted away too much I guess.
Over to you guys...
If you can help, you can contact James Taylor at
editorial@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx
Cheers
Mark
