Alyn, This may be hard to explain but I mabe a tool to install the locking
strip out of a piece of 1/8" gas welding rod. I bent it into a diamond
shapeabout 1" long and 3/8" wide. where the ends meet at the top of the
diamond I left about 1" of wire. This makes the tool about 2" long. I clamp
the ends in a pair of standard vise-grips and use the tool with the release
lever side of the vise-grips away from the body. This way the curved outside
of the jaw pushes the lock strip into the rubber moulding as the wire holds
it open. The lock strip runs through the diamond opening. I think you need
to put a slight downward bend on the wire loop. I've been using this
homemade tool for over 20 years and it always works great. Best of luck,
Mark
