We used aircraft rivets (4-6mm round head aluminium, the rivet can be
shortened easily with a side cutter), scavenged from the scrap-bin
from a local helicopter workshop. The result is a very original look
at minimum cost. The rivets were hit down using a custom made tool
(flat piece of metal with a little dome in it to accommodate the head)
and a well aimed blow with a hammer on the other side. It's a lot
easier to do the rivets with the panel (door, bonnet) on the ground.
Rest the piece on the flat metal with the dome holding the rivet head,
ask a friend or two to hold the panel parallel with the ground, aim
and hit.

Cheers,

V.
