As no one else has replied -
The Defender will have an instrument voltage regulator and the old 2 1/4
probably will not. What is needed depends if the gauge is one that can be
connected directly to the battery or one that needs a regulated feed.
If it is an aftermarket one it would probably work with simply a switched
feed and earth to the gauge plus the connecting wire and a sender to match
the gauge.
If the other type would mean fitting the regulator, switched feed and earth
to the regulator, wire from regulator to the gauge, earth for the gauge and
the matching sender with a connecting wire.
Your choice if you fit the sender as a replacement for the oil pressure
switch (bad practice) or if you get an adaptor which lets both be fitted
simultaneously. All the firms that sell these things sell every type of
adaptor.
Nick.

Subject: SER1 Electric oil pressure gauge
Hi All,
I have just acquired an electric oil pressure gauge from a Defender,
but am wondering how easy it would be to use with a 2 1/4 petrol engine
- if at all. Has anyone any idea what parts I may need to get it all
working?
Cheers
Mark
