Ian,

Which sort of dynamo belt do you have? - the later narrow "normal modern
type" or the older wider one? This does make a real difference to how easy
an alternator is to fit. 

If the loom is wired correctly then there will be no significant electrical
problem - The alternators are common to many models - Mini, most oldish
Leyland cars etc. (Leaving the exotica aside all that counts is the
electrical connection being of the right type and the "handedness" of the
mounts - left or right side of the engine and mounting strap top or bottom).
