SER1 Replacing front dumb iron

As I need to replace one front dumb iron I ordered one from Craddocks. As
can be seen on the foto it shows a little part protruding onto the first
cross member, the one where the steering relay sits. The ones of you who
have replaced such a part, have you cut an opening into the cross member to
insert this panel, have you welded it in overlapping or have you cut it
away?
To insert it seems quite a lot of work.
