I have yet to see any "realistic" savings in fuel due to the installation of
freewheeling hubs. It certainly will not be enough to be able to omit a
jerycan worth of fuel per X hundred kilometer leg. Might as well try to
improve by going to the lavatory prior to departure and clipping Your tow
nails in order to reduce the overall weight of the outfit ;-)
On my recent trip up north we carried (under a hard top) 4 jerry cans of
fuel, 15 gallons of water, a 100Watt generator, food for 2 for a weel and
winter camping gear for same, plus tools, spares et c. On snowy/ slushy
dirt roads we averaged 19 mpg
In summer with a canvas top I usually get 20 mpg
Not much of a difference
Wit a full tank and 2 jerry cans You should be able to savely cover 500 to
600 km. plenty good for the trans lab.

Good Morning!
I'm wondering if locking hubs are still available for the front axle of my
TT and which brand, if any, I should favor. I'm thinking that hubs would
reduce the parasitic drag and thus improve fuel economy on the long
TransLab legs (I'd like to minimize the number of jerrycans aboard).
