I have had AVM free wheeling hubs fitted to my 88" 2l petrol for several
years and suspect they must have saved some fuel consumption although it is
difficult to know as I also have a Fairey overdive and I have never done a
comparison test. I do know that on a 2,000 mile trip using motorways, minor roads,
town driving and mountain driving I averaged 21mpg.
If you do choose to fit them one thing you must do at regular intervals is
to switch them back into drive for a short while to allow the oil to lubricate
the swivels. If you do not do this they run dry and wear quickly.
