I carried my fuel in a 44 drum but not much room for that in an 80" most
of the blokes either had extra fuel tanks made to fit the well or fitted
an extra tank in place of the tool box. The extra was carried in Jerry
cans, no real safe place to store but may be better in side with
spinnerfex fires in the back of ones mind out there.

G'Day again George,
I usually settle for storing the jerry can inside the vehicle, after
all I am sitting on a tank in any case. As you say, one jerry can should
do it for your trip.
I am surprised that Tony Cammage has not had something to say about
fuel. their Canning Stock Route trip last year required that they
carried about 200 litres of fuel each. Add spares, oil, water, food,
clothing, tent etc. and an 80" is farly well loaded by that stage.
One of the other problems encountered here is that jerry cans on a
roof rack frequently get very hot, even up to the boiling point of
petrol. The pressure built up inside the cans prevents them from
actually boiling until you open one, best done on the ground and well
away from anything combustible.
Chers
