The thread size in the thermostat housing and the inlet pipe boss is
1/2"BSP. The correct heater pipe size is 5/8" Dia. The correct couplings are
therefore 1/2" to 5/8" with 5/8" BSP Nuts and pipe nipples.
In the UK, I have found the combination 1/2" to 5/8' virtually impossible to
obtain. You might be lucky digging through boxes at a steam rally. 1/2" or
3/4" upwards are no problem.
Taps and dies are still around if you fancy making your own up!...
There is no modern metric equalent pipe size available for 5/8". I had to
send for some 5/8" imperial pipe from Canada. The metric 15mm or 22mm is
either too small or oversized! However it can be made to work, but doesn't
look quite right because 1/2" BSP/15mm couplings are available.
Hope this helps.

Subject: SER1 smiths heater fittings
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what size/ type of thread is used on the water pump inlet
pipe where the smiths heater pipe connects into it. The parts catalogue
shows a reducing union part no. 213276. I can't get this or the pipes so I
thought I would try my local engineering supplier for a converter to fit
standard plumbing copper pipe. Unless anyone knows where I can get the
original
parts?
Thanks
Tony Boyle.
