The suggestion below is viable, but it is a bit more complicated. Bring the
88 propshaft to a machine shop and ask them to shorten it and turn inside
and outside seats plus a groove for welding onto both parts. It is
imperative to guide both parts inside each other after shortening otherwise
it will not be possible to balance the part after welding. Look then for a
welder who will produce an even seam. Pipe fitters should be in a position
to do that.Mark the shaft, so that it will come together in the same angular
position. This helps to avoid new unbalance building up.

None of this will spare you the effort of balancing the shortened shaft.
There is a jury type procedure to do this which could bring the balance to
an acceptable level. I am sitting in a train and can't remember how it goes,
nor where I have stored the information (So much for good housekeeping) but
looking throught the internet you may be able to find it. Otherwise you have
to look around for companies that can do this.

You can carefully try to drive without balancing the shaft. Take the floor
out and look or feel for vibrations. Who knows, maybe everything fell into
its place...

Good luck

Take a standard 88" one and shorten it?
(taking the long side of the propshaft, you grind off the weld holding the
plug in the end, shorten the tube, and weld the plug back in...)
