Welcome to the list from Australia - (otherwise known as Oorstraalya to =
people who don't get our perfect accent) we hope we can all be of help.
You will find that many bits on the 1959 are similar or the same as the =
later Series 1 vehicles.
The 1953 on the other hand has quite a lot of differences, however many =
parts are available in reproduction, such as the mudguards (you'se guys =
will call them fenders and the Brits will call them wings but boats have =
fenders and planes have wings).
The oil pipework may be correct. The Rover 1595cc (1948-'51) and early =
1997cc engines (till 1955), these are often called siamese bore 2 litre =
engines because of the closeness of cyl 1&2 and 3&4 yours is one of =
these. The early engines had a bypass filter system where only some of =
the oil was filtered, the oil filter is on the LHS of the engine in =
front of the starter. Full flow oil filters came in on the later 1997cc =
engines, these engines are also called spread bore 2 litre engines, the =
filter is below the carby on the RHS of the engine.
A couple of things you need to decide is how original you want to be =
with the project. It can be expensive finding the correct parts for =
original specification. My first purchases would be a copy of the =
1948-53 parts Catalogue (TP111/G) and a copy of the Workshop Manual =
(TP138/A) not the later workshop manual 1948-58 Part Number 4291. The =
Parts Catalogue has been reprinted and is available through Brooklands =
Books the Workshop Manual is available through the Land Rover Series One =
Club in the UK however their site is offline today =

The list can also be very helpful but most useful is the Documents =
section of the Series One Garage. =
