I was wondering about this kind of stuff as well, but are they not just 
variations on the basic vehicle?

It's a bit like the modern 110: it's either a 3-door van, a 2-door 
pickup, a 2-door High-Capacity pickup, a Double-Cab pickup, or a 5-door 
station-wagon : 5 versions of the same base vehicle or 5 different models?
