Unless your petrol is a 2A model you would be putting an extra 3 Amps which
is 15 % greater current than the control box is set for so there is a
theoretical risk of burning old wires and it depends on what type of control
box you have? The early series 2 diesels used a 22 amp C45.PV5 dynamo,
while if your Series 2 is an early petrol engine it would have a 19 amp
c39,PV2 dynamo. The control box for the Diesel is a "current voltage
control" RB310 37189 while the control box for the petrol is a "compensated
voltage control" RB106/2 37182E
To be safe I would use the control box from the diesel model paired with its
correct dynamo. To do this you would have to terminate the Brown-white and
the brown-blue wires (from the AI and A terminals on the original petrol
c/box) to the B terminal on the diesel control box. Make sure you have a
30+ amp Ammeter or you may burn it out with the higher current.
HOWEVER TO BE PRAGMATIC IN THE SERIES 2A BOTH THE DIESEL AND THE PETROL USE
A 22 AMP DYNAMO BUT DIFFERENT CONTROL BOXES. AND THE CONTROL BOX FOR THE
Series 2A PETROL (RB106/2 37290E) IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THAT ON THE Series
2
SO YOU WILL PROBABLY GET AWAY WITH IT.

Subject: SER1 Dynamo (generator) question
Hi all,
The dynamo (generator) on my Series 2 petrol has packed up, and the only
spare I have is from a 2 litre Diesel. As a short term arrangement, would it
make any difference fitting the diesel dynamo - which presumably is designed
to charge the twin 6 volt batteries, as opposed to a lower powered 12 volt
battery. I just need to know if it will cause any damage really please?
Cheers
