Some time ago on E-bay there was an 80" with Lincoln Arc Welder in the
back: it was by no means original as it had a 2.25 diesel installed and
the guy selling it could not say if the welder was an original fitment.
I can't comment as to how much work had been done to fit the engine save
for the fact that the air cleaner had been relocated to sit on the
bumper, just in front of the radiator. I gather that the LR had sat in
a commercial garage for years, the welder being used occasionally. The
hard top from an 86" was also fitted - the overhang at the back covered
the arc welder and did not look entirely out of place.
I seem to recall that a Perkins Prima engine was fitted to an 80" in a 2
part article in Land Rover Owner International Magazine. Some mention
was made in the article of possible clearance issues between the rear of
the engine block and the bulkhead.
