Just as a rumor, what I have heard is that Google (Who I think is the
industry leader in XmlHttpRequest) builds everything in XUL and then
has an automatic translator to generate the resulting XHTML/CSS and
JavaScript files, that connect to the server via XmlHttpRequest
handlers.  I've been unable to factually confirm this, but it makes
sense (and is a good idea).
