Hi Graeme,

this is an odd brochure indeed .... one would think the artist never
actually saw a production model, which is likely the case!

I reckon the Land Rover development and market introduction was at such a
fast pace that there was insufficient lead time for producing accurate
brochures. Back in '48 this artwork was done by hand, and was not ready on
short notice. This does suggest though that while the body style may have
been finalized fairly early, the concept of center steering survived a
liittle longer.

Notice that there is a caption on the top right corner of the back page "It
is supplied with right or left hand steering as required", indicating that
the decision was made by the time the brochure was printed - still this
caption could have been easily added in mid-production.

Does anyone live near Leicester? The printer was Adams Bros. & Shardlow Ltd
of Leicester. I wonder of they are in existence still. They may have an
archive with more information. Or perhaps the BHMT does?

There are dozens of 'artists impressions' in this document. Notice how the
rad support panel is incorrect in all the pictures, lacking the cut-outs in
the lower corners. On the cover page there's illustrated a separate pair of
hold-down hooks for the windscreen and another pair for the bonnet. Also
shown but incorrect is the valance panel between the bumper and the rad
support. The bumper is too large - looks as if they were prototyping the S2
bumper in '48!

Also of note is the rear axle illustrated with fully floating hubs - is this
perhaps a Jeep unit? The tailgate hinges are also odd.

Cheers

Jeremy
