Hello Ulrico,
Like yourself I have just bought a Series 1 as well. I am facing the same
predicaments. However mine wasn't driveable so it got stripped straight
away.
My plans are to attack the bulk head first as this seems the be the most
challenging part. It has a lot of rust. Around the bottom of the windscreen
is the worst. Things can then only get easier. I am going to take the easier
way out and not get too concerned with keeping things 100% original. The car
runs a Series 2 engine for starters. I will need to change the engine mounts
slightly as the series 2 mounts make the engine and gearbox tilt nose down
as well as not lining up properly and causing the mounting rubbers to shear.
This also made the gearlever hit the dash panel when selecting first gear.
Lifting the engine mount about 30mm brings things level and is also as high
as it will go before the bellhousing hits the bulkhead. Something to keep in
mind if you intend fitting a 2.25 motor.
The chassis has some nasty rust in both the front and rear crossmembers and
I intend to replace both of these with home made ones. I'll start by making
cardboard templates and using these to make up new box sections. All this
will be documented and shown on a website as work progresses.
For now I have put up a few quick pics of the truck as it arrived at home,
about an hour later with the roof removed (which is how I intend to keep it)
and some pics of the work as it was a couple of days ago. This address will
eventually become the proper website so bookmark it now.
