Hello Ulrico

From the looks of your X-member I would try and fix it before =
considering replacement! I'm not to sure if you can even buy a new =
series I replacement X-member, can you???? If so let me know and I'll =
order one for my self.

If you do go the replacement rout it's the same as doing a Series II, =
you cut straight through the chassis rail as close to the X-member as =
you can then slide the new extended X-member over the old chassis rail =
and weld in place. You may want to make a simple frame jig before you =
remove the old bumper to insure a good fit. It's a good investment to =
get the Haynes Restoration manual for Land Rover series I, II & III it =
has several chapters devoted to Chassis repair and Rear crossmember =
replacement. I'm always referring to it, it's an invaluable tool.
